Richard Glen Whittaker
August 24th, 1936 - September 12th, 2012
Richard Glen "Dick" Whittaker, 76, of Englewood, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at his Sarasota County residence. He was born on August 24, 1936 in Akron, Ohio to the late Glen Whittaker and Agnes Laconi, Dick moved to Englewood in 1991 from Wallingford, CT. Prior to moving to Florida, he had lived in Flushing, MI and Bar Harbor, ME. Dick had a full career in retail management before embarking on the adventure of opening a real estate office with his wife, and partner, Jean. Known as reserved and distinguished, he loved his large extended family and close group of friends. He enjoyed travel and spending time with Jean. Dick was preceded in death by his grandson: Joshua Stidham; a step-son: Keith Whittaker Matsubayshi and a son-in-law: Chris Allen. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years: Jean Pressley Whittaker; one daughter: Vicki Krug of Taylor, MI; two step-daughters: Renee' Allen of Chesapeake, VA and Debbie Chapoton of Clinton Twnp, MI; one grandson: Shawn Stidham; one great grandson: Craig Stidham; one brother: Gary Whittaker of Akron, OH; one sister: RuthAnn Montgomery of Greene, OH, as well as very loved nieces, nephews and extended family. A Memorial Service and Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 12 Noon at the Englewood United Methodist Church, 700 East Dearborn Street in Englewood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Tidewell Hospice, www.tidewell.org, Englewood Helping Hand, www.englewoodhelpinghand.org, - or, just do a random act of kindness in his honor.
