COLUMBIA - Rita F. Grubbs - A memorial service for Rita F. Grubbs, 68, of Columbia, will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Suber-Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church, 3900 Suber Street, Columbia, SC 29205. Reverend Reggie Rowell will officiate. The family will greet friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mrs. Grubbs passed away Friday, September 1, 2017. Born in Charleston, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Marion Funchess and Clorine Bozard Funchess. She is survived by her loving son, Larry Grubbs (Michelle Lacoss) of Atlanta; granddaughter, Miette Lacoss; brother, Lewis Funchess, Jr. of Columbia; nieces, Christy Funchess and Pam Dawes (Joe); nephew, Marty Funchess (Angie). In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, Sam Grubbs; sister-in-law, Frankie Funchess. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the 8th floor staff at Palmetto Baptist Hospital for their balance of compassion and professionalism; their tender treatment of Rita was of immeasurable comfort to the family. Also, special thanks to hospice nurse Sharon, who will always be in our hearts. Doctor Edgar DesChamps saw her kindly through the worst of it. For his love of her and her family, we will always be grateful. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in her name, to her church home, Suber-Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church.
