Robert Ralph Anderson

Robert was born March 15, 1937 in Superior, WI to Joseph N. and Maude L. Anderson. He graduated in 1955 from Superior East High School. Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 thru 1959. His time in the Navy was spent on three ships (USS Cony, Shadwell & Fremont), plus 1-1/2 years in French Morocco. His rank was Radio 2nd Class. After leaving the Navy Robert worked for various pipe lines. S.P. pipeline seemed the best fit, working in Nevada, California, and then transferring to Portland, OR in 1962. He worked at the Portland location as a Pump Station Operator until his retirement in 1998. Robert married Ruth Barrett in 1972. Ruth passed away in 1997. After his wife passed, his best buddy "Trouper" (his cat) was his constant companion. Trouper passed away in 2012. In his retirement years a typical day for Robert was walking the mall at Washington Square with friends, then on to Dutch Brothers for a latte, or perhaps breakfast at Tom's Pancake House, then a stop at Dotty's. His afternoon always included a meeting with friends for coffee at Starbuck's. An avid reader, Robert always finished his day with a good book. A special thank you to Stan, Cindy, and Melissa for all they did for Robert during his illness, to those who faithfully visited Robert at the care facility, to Fulga of Fulga's Adult Foster Care for her loving and compassionate care of Robert, and to Deva his hospice nurse. Having proudly served in the U.S. Navy, Robert chose Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR to be his final resting place. A committal service with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on July 10th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice & Palliative Care of Washington County, the American Humane Society, or charity of ones choice.
