Robert John Avington

Avington, Robert John "Eggs" 82, of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he moved his family to Vina del Mar on Pass-A-Grille Beach in 1970. He graduated from North Catholic High, in Philadelphia. A career Army soldier, he served valiantly in Korea, earning the Distinguished Service Cross, Wharang Distinguished Military Service Medal with Gold Star, the Purple Heart, among other honors, retiring in 1972. A parade was held in his honor upon his return to Philadelphia from the Korean Theater. He was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 305), The American Legion (Post 125), Disabled American Veterans. Robert enjoyed time with the love of his life, his wife Helen, who preceded him in death in 2011. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed travel and cruises, and watching TV programs about traveling and culture. Eggs was an outdoorsman, who relished his time sitting on the dock, watching the local fauna, fishing, and enjoying life. He was also preceded in death by his Son Robert Jr. He will be missed by his children, Donna Avington Lahre, Christopher M. Avington (Carolyn), and Matthew P. Avington (Holley); six granddaughters, Megan, Ryan, Autumn, Kelli, Sarah, and Madison; three grandsons, Christopher "Muki", Jason, and Thomas; and five great-grandchildren, Isabella, Peter "Rocco", Jacob, Dylan, and Wyatt.
