Robert H. Barker

Robert H. Barker, 77, of Johnstown, NY, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Randall, NY, on September 12, 1937, a son of Harry and Ida Winsman Barker. He was a lifelong area resident and was a 1956 graduate of Fonda-Fultonville High School. Mr. Barker was the owner and operator of the Heritage Inn in Cherry Valley. For most of his career he worked in the construction industry. He worked for the Midway Block Co., Kasson and Keller Co. and the White Mop Wringer Co. He also was employed for a time for Torrington Construction Company and worked on the construction of the Northway I 87. Bob also worked for a time for the US Postal Service. He last was self-employed and the owner of Bob Barker Construction retiring in 2010. He was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge, the Charlotte Valley Hunting Club, the National Rifle Association and the National Horse Racing Association. He enjoyed watching motorsports, snowmobiling, hunting, playing horseshoes and golf. Robert married Jean Marie Bell Barker on July 10, 1977. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by two sons, Craig (Barbara) Barker and Jeffrey Barker of Randall, NY. One step-daughter, Tamie Kiniry of Lafayette, NY. A step-son, Gary Gifford Jr., of Jupiter FL. One brother, Gerald (Kathy) Stockwell of Sprakers, NY. Grandchildren, Robert and Daniel Kiniry, Madison and Lashonda Gifford, Sarah and Raymond DeLaney and Danielle Hartwig. Great-grandchildren, Everly Kiniry and Brin Hartwig. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Ida and his step-father, Herman Stockwell. He was also predeceased by a sister, Joan Wells and brother-in-law William Wells. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at 3:00 P.M. at the Jackson and Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY, with Father Patrick Gallagher OFM CONV presiding. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
