Centerville, GA: Robert Lee Barney, 84, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Parkway Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Barney was born in Coffeeville, AL. He was the son of the late Mac Barney and Minnie Rainey Barney. He was a retired Staff Sergeant with the United States Army. He served in the Korea and Vietnam conflicts as a medical specialist. He was a former employee at McCullough Funeral Home where he took care of the grounds and maintenance. Mr. Barney was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Margaret S. Barney of Centerville, son, Randy Barney of Norcross, daughter, Robin Blount of Eastpoint, brothers, Vernon Barney of Chicago, IL, Junior Mac Barney of Mobile, AL, Theodore Barney of Washington, D.C., Delard Barney of Mobile, AL, sisters, Ernestine Russell of Mt. Vernon, AL, Minnie Mae Russell of Coffeeville, AL, Bernice Miller of Mobile, AL, Beatrice McKenzie of Maryland, VA, Tommie Lee Slater of Montgomery, AL, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart of Georgia Hospice @ 103 Westridge Dr., Warner Robins, GA, 31088, in memory of Mr. Barney. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
