Byers, Dr. Robert W. ?Bob?, 62, of St. Petersburg, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute of complications following gastric bypass surgery. He came here in 1970 from his native Brooklyn, NY. He was actively employed as a Professor of Public Health at the University of South Florida, Tampa Campus where he worked in various capacities since 1990. He was Roman Catholic and a member of the American Public Health Association; Past President of the Pinellas Park Chamber of Commerce; and a volunteer for CAPA Community Alliance of Pinellas for AIDS. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Wethington; a daughter, Stephanie Byers of Sterling, VA; two sons: Raymond and Jason Byers, both of Pinellas County; and a step-daughter, Lenore Gray of Salvisa, KY. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Tribute Center ? Bobbitt Chapel.
