Robert Locey Caswell passed away on January 28, 2016. He was born April 2, 1936 to Harry and Connie Caswell in Chico, CA. Robert was raised on the Adams Ranch, now known as Rancho Esquon in Durham, CA. He grew up in the Durham Schools and graduated from Durham High School in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart Vicki Hunt and had 3 children: Chris, Shelley, and Jeff Caswell. Later in life he married Betty Hunn Caswell and lived in Paradise from 1985 to 2000. He then returned to Forest Ranch, CA. Robert was employed with Butte Creek Rock Company crushing rock for roads. He was a self-made logger and spent many years falling trees to make way for Oroville Lake. He was an industrious man who worked hard his entire life. He was a specialist in pyrotechnics and instrumental in dynamiting large tree stumps to clear the path for orchard ground. He was known to many Chico residents for keeping them warm by cutting and delivering almond wood until he was 76 years old. Robert was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. His talents ranged from parachuting, dynamiting, hunting, fishing, gunsmithing and historical reading. He touched people's lives with endless stories about local history. He was a devoted member of Neighborhood Church and Butte Bible Fellowship. He is survived by his sister Sydney Moody of Chico, CA; brother Tom Caswell, son Jeff Caswell, daughter Shelly Fernandez all of Durham, CA; and four grandchildren Kristopher, Mark, Brittany, and Mitchell Caswell. A graveside service will be planned for Saturday, February 6, at Glen Oaks Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association and to Durham Community Foundation, P.O. Box 454, Durham, CA 95938. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home.
