Robert "Bob" Congdon
July 12th, 1927 - February 12th, 2016
July 12, 1927 - February 12, 2016 Robert Allen (Bob) Congdon, 88, passed peacefully into eternal life, February 12th, 2016. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Lurena Congdon and by Elizabeth C. (Betty) Congdon, his devoted wife of 63 years. Bob was born July 12th, 1927, in Burlington, WI. He grew up in Mukwonago and Waukesha, WI, married Betty (Svehlek) in 1948, staying in Waukesha, where he and Betty raised their five boys. In 1973 he moved to East Grand Rapids, MI. Bob returned to Wisconsin after Betty's passing, residing in Brookfield, WI. Bob was a World War II Navy veteran and served as a Machinist's Mate on both LST 909 and LST 1071 in the Pacific Theater. He studied to become a Chartered Life Underwriter and worked for the Wisconsin Life Company and as the Grand Rapids branch manager of the Manufacturer's Life Insurance Company until his retirement. During his retirement years, Bob enjoyed travelling to visit his children where ever their careers had taken them, and to spend time with his family, grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. In 1979 he co-founded the annual "Congdon Open" golf tournament, celebrating friends and family, good times, and some truly bad golf. In good years and bad, he remained a fiercely loyal fan of his beloved Green Bay Packers and held season tickets until his passing. Bob is survived by his five sons, Robert (Sue) Congdon of Medford, NJ, Richard (Linda) Congdon of Waukesha, WI, Dennis (Janet) Congdon of Danville, KY, Thomas (Paula) Congdon of Waukesha, WI, and Douglas (Christine) Congdon of East Grand Rapids, MI. Bob was "Grandpa" to his twelve grandchildren, Amy, Jeff, Shawn, Michelle, Matthew, Makensie, Evan, Tom, Michael, John, Lauren, and Catherine. His six great grandchildren are Ethan, Connor, Nathan, Hannah, Jack and Jenna. He is also survived by his brother Jim (Esther) Congdon of Waukesha, WI, his sister Mary (Ray) Worley of Milwaukee, WI, and will be missed by many nieces, nephews and good friends. The family wishes to thank the warm and professional staff and residents of Regency Senior Living in Brookfield where Bob spent his final years.
