January 9th, 1940 - December 23rd, 2011
Robert D. Darling Sr., age 71, of Gloversville passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Troy, NY the son of the late Nelson and Alice Feathers Darling. Bob proudly served in the United States Navy with the Seabees from 1958 until 1960. On April 30, 1977, Bob married Diana L. Betler Darling. They have shared 34 years united in marriage. He was a member of the Horse Club in Caroga Lake and the Fulton County Antique Car Club. Bob was self employed as a contractor specializing in roofing and siding as well as a real estate broker. He was an avid collector of albums and magazines. Bob had a very creative and innovative mind. He has successfully had one of his ideas patented and has been working on a fuel saving apparatus for combustion engines. He will be missed by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diana L. Darling of Gloversville, three children: Suzanne A. Darling Lou of Oneonta, NY, Thomas W. Darling Michele of Troy, NY, Nancy L. Bradley Robert of Fonda, 5 siblings: Nelson Darling Jr. Jan, Diane Perkins Terry, Ray Darling, John Darling Julie and William Darling Barbara. Additional survivors include: 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Robert Darling Jr. and a brother, Theodore Darling. Family and friends are invited and may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday December 31, 2011 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A memorial service will be conducted immediately following the conclusion of calling hours at 12 noon with Pastor Bob Hurd officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Bob can be made to: Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078. The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and especially Anna Marie Hoye for the kindness and care that Bob received.
