Robert Lee Dunbar

Robert Lee Dunbar, 93, died at 4pm July 11, 2023 in Wesley Chapel, Florida. He was born December 10, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Samuel Chester Dunbar and Bernice Haywood Dunbar. Survivors include his wife Kay Collins Dunbar; one daughter and son-in-law Jennifer Dunbar Nobbe and James Nobbe of Pinehurst, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law John Dunbar and Erica Dunbar of Aberdeen, North Carolina; one brother and sister-in-law Frank and Mary Dunbar of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters Florence Slatton of McMinnville, Tennessee and Judy Estel of Terre Haute, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. The light of his life was his three grandchildren: Leo Nobbe, Jacob Dunbar, and Ella Dunbar. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Garland Kent Dunbar. Bob graduated from Jamestown High School and the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where he played varsity basketball. Most of his thirty-eight years in teaching were in Wayne Township in Marion County, Indiana. He enjoyed coaching and golfing. He was a brother of the Bridgeport Lodge #162 and a member of the Valley of Indianapolis Scottish Rite. Retirement was a dream come true, living on a golf course watching the action. A celebration of Bob's life will be held in Pinehurst, North Carolina this Fall.
