Robert Troy Evans was born in Oakland, California to Robert Willis and Nellie Evelyn Evans on November 2, 1933. Living nearly his entire life in the Bay Area, he attended Fremont High School in Oakland (1951), where he ran track and met his future bride, Gaye Ellen Doughart. Shortly after graduating from high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart in January 1956 and went to work for the Pacific Telephone Company, for whom he worked for 33 years, rising to the position of District Manager. Bob loved to serve, and was well-trained for his lifetime of service through the example of his parents, and involvement with the Order of DeMolay (Past Master Councilor). Among his enduring character qualities were unqualified love for his family, reverence for God, courtesy and kindness toward others, absolute faithfulness in marriage, uncompromising commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities, and a deep sense of patriotism. Most specifically, Bob sacrificially gave of his time and talents to furthering the cause of the Gospel through the church, where he served with Gideons International, and in the areas of sound, electronics, and recording ministries for many decades. An accomplished photographer, Bob replicated many of the most iconic photographs taken by the famed photographer Ansel Adams during his many visits to his favorite spot, Yosemite National Park. Additionally, Bob took the photographs at numerous weddings and for the "prayer cards" of many missionaries, often waiving the associated costs or recouping only his direct expenses. For many years, he edited the recording ministry of Veritas Ministries International for subsequent duplication, release, and broadcasts. Bob loved the National Park system, classical music, traveling to Hawaii, and spending time with his family, to whom he was fully faithful and sacrificially devoted. He regularly attended nearly every involvement and activity with which his children and, later, grandchildren were involvedfrom Scouting, to sporting events, to cheerleading, to musical performancesoften arriving for even mid-afternoon occasions in his business suit, with a loosened tie and sleeves rolled up. Among his civic involvements, Bob was involved with Rotary International, served as President of the Concord Chamber of Commerce, and was the Muir District Chairman, Mt. Diablo Council, Boy Scouts of America. Robert Troy Evans died on November 17, 2015 from complications arising from long-term Dementia, Alzheimers Type. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Gaye Ellen Evans, and their son Rev. Dr. Robert William Evans, daughter-in-law Kamrin Evans, and grandchildren William, Wade, and Lauren Evans; and their daughter Linda Ellen Candau, son-in-law Brad Candau, and grandchildren Matthew (wife, Emily), Michael (wife, Cassi, and son, Jake), and Nicholas, to whom he was affectionately known as "Popps."
