Robert Fairchild
October 18th, 1940 - October 30th, 2015
On Friday, October 30, 2015 at the age of 75, Robert Kenneth Fairchild passed peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Carol, of 56 years, both of Smithtown, New York. One of seven children, Bob was raised in St James, New York. He lives on through his children Wendy Fairchild of Melbourne, FL., and Matthew Fairchild of New York, NY. Beloved grandchildren Julie, Cathryn, and Grace and also his very special great-granddaughter, Jayde. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Fairchild Jr.. Survived by siblings Rodger Fairchild and spouse Doris, Constance Nadig, and sister in law Marietta Fairchild. Caring nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. Predeceased by siblings Alan Fairchild, Richard Fairchild, Nick Atkins and Valerie McConville. Robert was a 23 year veteran of Suffolk County New York Police, earning many citations for bravery, and going above and beyond the call of duty. After moving to Florida in 1996, he was able to fully enjoy the everyday lives of his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Bob was mentor and guardian to many children of family and friends throughout his life. It was his special gift and joy. He continued working in security at Northrop Grumman, pursuing his hobbies of golf, poker games and traveling with Carol, but most of all enjoyed being a loving Papa. In keeping with Bob’s wishes a service will be held at Faith Viera Lutheran Church, Rockledge Florida http://www.faithviera.org on Wednesday, November 4, at 11am. Reception to follow. Final committal and resting place will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to The Children’s Hunger Project of Cocoa, Florida. https://thechildrenshungerproject.org Family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Vitas Hospice for their very special care and concern in these last few months.
