Robert H. Gillespie Sr.

Lexington, KY Robert H. Gillespie, Sr., 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Green Meadows Nursing Center in Mt. Washington, KY. He was born March 24, 1928 to August H. Gillespie and Elizabeth (Ham) Gillespie in Lexington, KY. Robert is survived by his wife, Betty R. (Cooper) Gillespie, two daughters, Linda G. Gammon of Lawrenceburg, KY, and Jana G. Lalewicz also of Lexington; a son Robert H. Gillespie, Jr. of Tampa, FL.. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Shane Gammon, Sherry Stumph, Terry Graham, Andrew Sparks, and Kristina Lalewicz and six great grandchildren: Tanner, Jacob, Trevor, Christopher, Sloane, and Trey. Nieces: Mary McDowell and Diane Sullivan and nephews, Joseph Wright, Jimmy Wright, David Wright, Ben Hiler, Frank Gillespie and the late Thomas Rayborn. He also leaves behind his cousin and life long friend Robert Ham. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James Gillespie of Paris, KY, Charles Gillespie of Lexington, KY and three sisters, Martha Rayborn, Margret Wright and Nellie Hiler, all of Lexington. Robert was retired from the University of Kentucky and was a great fan of Wildcat basketball. He enjoyed woodwork, golf, boating, and fishing. Robert has chosen to be cremated and have his cremains scattered. Funeral Information A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be served. His family and friends are invited to confirm attendance by calling Linda Gammon at 502-600-6988.
