Robert “Bob” V. Goetz, age 63, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2019, in the Melech Hospice House in Florida. He was born on December 8, 1955, in Genoa, OH to Virgil and Marilyn Goetz. Bob, a Vietnam-era veteran, spent most of his career in the Department of Defense, the U.S. Justice Department, and the Department of Homeland Security before retiring in 2011. Always willing to help others, Bob dedicated much of his life to working with the U.S. Jaycees, becoming a lifetime member as part of the JCI Senate. After moving to Florida to escape the D.C. weather, Bob became very active in the community and veterans organizations around Sun City Center, including working to help the SCC Dog Park where he loved to take his faithful companion, Murphy. Friends knew Bob has a generous, caring, mentor and advocate for anyone who needed help. He is survived by his son, Michael (Kara) Goetz of Seattle, WA; his daughter Lori Goetz of Rolling Meadows, IL; his grandson, Gunnar Goetz; sisters Diane Markham of Perrysburg, OH and Mary (Michael) Thompson of Perrysburg, OH; and nephews Andrew, Gregory, and Bryan. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jeff. Family, friends, and others whose lives Bob touched are invited to Sun City Center Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Dr., Sun City Center, FL from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob’s name to your favorite Veterans charity.
