Robert L. Hoffner
June 16th, 1930 - April 21st, 2015
Robert "Bob” Hoffner, 84, passed away on April 21, 2015 at his home in Greeley. He was born June 16, 1930, to Fred and Katie (Kaiser) Hoffner in Greeley. Bob graduated from Gill High School. He was a gifted athlete and participated in all the sports offered at Gill. He was particularly proud that the Gill Basketball team went to State his senior year. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for two years. On March 30, 1952, he married Betty Ann Heinze. They farmed Kersey, Pierce, Eaton, and Gill area for several years. In 1961, he found his "calling” and went to work at Cowan Concrete as a truck driver. He quickly became the dispatcher, and then he became the concrete manager. He worked in the concrete business for 34 years with Cowan Concrete, Mobile Premix, and retired as president and managing partner of Best Way Concrete in 1995. He served on the board and as president of the Colorado Ready Mix Association. He was a member of the Weld County Builders and Northern Colorado Home Builders. Bob volunteered on the Poudre River Trail project for many years. He served on the board of St. Paul’s Congregational Church. He was a proud grandfather and great grandfather and loved spending time with the grandchildren. He sponsored each one of their baseball/softball teams. No matter what the activity the grandkids were in, they knew they would see "papa” in the stands supporting them. He enjoyed time with family and friends. He was an avid Bronco, Nuggets and Rockies fan. He amazed many with his knowledge of the players. He could tell you what high school and college the players came from and many times their statistics. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Sharon Ulrich (Brett), Carolyn Geisert (Steve), and Coleen Morehead (Jim), all of Greeley; sister, Harriett Lehr (Robert) of Greeley; and brothers, Don Hoffner (Mildred) of Eaton, and Jerry Hoffner of Greeley.
