NA ROBERT WILLIAM HUTT Robert Hutt, 88, was born to John Irvin Hutt and Helen Cyr in Tacoma, Washington on April 22, 1924. He passed away peacefully on Monday, October 1st, in an ambulance transfer from Providence St. Peter Hospital to the Panorama Convolscent and Rehabilitation Center. He was married to Ruby Longstreet for 38 years until her death in 1986. On February 14, 1987, he married their long-time friend, Betty Reilly. Bob attended St. Edwards Seminary and graduated from Bellarmine High School. His formal schooling was interrupted by service in World War II and later the Korean War. After the war, Bob attended college management classes. He workred for the State of Washington employment Security Department and was Commissioner of teh Department when he reluctantly retired in January 1976, after open heart surgery. While with Employment Security, Bob was active in the Interstate Conference of Employment Security Agencies and held many offices with that organization. Bob was a member of St. Michael Parish for more than 60 years. After retirement, he became very active in the church and was one of the original 12 Eucharistic Ministers of St. Michael. He served many years as Eucharistic home visitor for the terminally ill and visted nursing homes. Bob served three years as Chaplain at Capital Medical Center. He also served as Chairperson of teh Centennial Year Celebration, co-chair of the Fundraising Drive to remodel the downtown church, Downtown Council member, and chairman of Financial Committee and Liturgy Commission. Bob was a member of the Society's social service office. He is a Life member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion. Bob volunteered for many civic organizations and was on the Board of the United Way for several years, and a Board member of the Campfire girls. He had many philanthropic interests. Bob was known for his wicked sense of humor. For years, Bob was a member of the Olympia Country and Gold Club. He had a passion for golf but with the onset of Parkinson's four years ago, he could no longer play. He also enjoyed traveling, bridge and playing poker with his buddies once a month. In 2004, Bob and Betty moved to Panorama and have enjoyed life there and made many friends. He was a devoted family man with great compassion for others. Bob is survived by his loving wife Betty; daughter Donna (Dennis) Hamlett of Maryland; sister Margaret Comfort of Tacoma and Palm Desert; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his furry friend, Amy. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruby, son Robb, five brothers, and one sister. Special thanks to Dr Gerald Fay and staff, and the nurses and staff on the Ninth Floor of Providence St. Peter Hospital for the wonderful care he received. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Vincent DePaul Society (1055 Boundary St SE, Olympia WA 98501), or to Providence St. Peter Hospital Foundation (413 Lilly Rd NE, Olympia WA 98506).
