Robert J. "Bob" Hofmann
November 25th, 1923 - April 21st, 2016
Robert J. “Bob” Hofmann passed away April 21, 2016. He was born November 25, 1923, in Moscow, Idaho to Henry and Grace Hofmann. He grew up in Moscow as the sixth of seven children. He spent three years in the Navy after graduating from Moscow High School. Bob enjoyed playing saxophone in the Navy band. Bob attended University of Idaho, earning a degree in civil engineering in 1948. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. His first job out of college was for Idaho State Department of Reclamation; two years later he went to work for Idaho Fish and Game Department. He met Louise (Grider) and married her a year later in Boise on February 23, 1952. From there they moved to Richland, Washington, where Bob worked for Blaw Knox Company-Hanford, WA, Atomic Energy Production Site. In 1954, Bob joined Morrison Knudsen (MK) Construction Company and served in many different positions that took him throughout the United States and international regions, retiring in 1989. A significant part of Bob’s career was spent in Butte, Montana. He transfered to F & S, a subsidiary of MK in 1961. Plentiful snow and cold winters were excellent conditions for family skiing and ice skating sporting events. Bob was very involved in ski races and ice skating shows. He enjoyed taking visiting family on tours of copper mines in Butte and rugged ghost towns in outlying areas. Bob was an active member of the Lyons Club, Optimist Club, a Boy Scout leader, and was an eager community volunteer throughout his adult life. Bob is survived by his wife, Louise; daughters, Kathe (Greg) and Mary (Mark), son, Rob; grandchildren, Megan, Adam, Sarah, Katie; sister, Jeanne, sister-in-law, Ruth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family would like to express deep appreciation for the love and care provided to Bob during his stay at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley; we would also like to extend appreciation to Legacy Hospice for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the charity of your choice in Bob’s memory.
