Robert A. Larsen
July 18th, 1939 - March 2nd, 2017
Robert A. Larsen, of Pioneer, CA, passed away from cancer at his home on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the age of 77. He was born in Merced, CA on July 18, 1939 to the late Trena (Olmsted) and Andrew Larsen. Known to his friends as "Bob" or "Pecos", he served in the U.S. Navy in the 1960's as a Torpedoman, TM2 (SS) on the diesel submarine, USS Spinax (SS 489), during the Vietnam War. A man of many talents, he spent the next thirty years as a cartoonist / artist, working independently and for Creative Publications and Lockheed Martin in the San Jose area. He excelled in his field doing everything from illustrating children's books, cartoon strips, greeting cards and even outer space simulation. Pecos was a proud member of several motorcycle, veteran and submarine associations. Friends will remember his main passion was his Harley and his love of the open road. Bob is survived by his sister, Joy Perkins, of Stockton, CA; and nephews, Steve Perkins, of Temecula, CA, Ken Perkins, of Stockton, CA, and Todd Perkins, of Gig Harbor, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Trena (Olmsted) and Andrew Larsen. Services will take place in the Garden of Freedom at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA on March 25, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bob's name to the Cancer Research Institute or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
