Robert "Rob" Albert Lenz

It is with blessed assurance of eternal life that we announce the death of our dear father, Robert Albert Lenz. Robert died peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2023 at his home in Hilton Head, S.C. and is celebrating with his wife Erma Elsie Lenz who predeceased him in death on May 27, 2017. Robert was born on May 27, 1930, in East Detroit, Michigan, and is survived by his beloved sister, Sharon Orluck (Ernie) who lives in Michigan. He graduated from Wayne State University and soon after began working at Michigan Bell. He obtained his MBA while working and attending Army Reserve activities. This began a 47 year long career with “the Bell system” ultimately culminating in a senior executive role in computer operations at Nynex in NYC. After hoping to win her over, Robert married Erma Schultz on November 22, 1952, in Utica, Michigan. Together they had three children, Kenneth Lenz (Carol), and their children Karl Lenz (Ariel), Abigail Lawton (Kurt), and Susanna Lenz; son Kurt Lenz (Kelly), and their children Kathleen Crum (Matthew), and Kory Lenz (Morgan); and daughter Kerry Morgan (James) and their children Sydney Marchese (Matthew), Mackenzie Branch (Ryan), and Tucker Morgan. Robert Lenz has three great grandsons, Matthew Crum and Kipling Crum (sons of Kathleen and Matthew Crum), and Liam Lenz (son of Kory and Morgan Lenz). Robert and Erma moved to Hilton Head Plantation in 1992 and became very involved in numerous activities on the island. Robert was an active member of Island Lutheran Church serving as an Elder, a Bible Study leader, a Stephen’s Minister, choir member and he was active in the Gideons. When not engaged in church, Dad could be found at the Country Club of Hilton Head playing golf or attending the many social activities, or volunteering at the Heritage Golf Tournament, Republican Club, playing bridge or singing in the choral group at the Cypress. Robert was best known for his passionate faith in Jesus Christ and his sweet demeanor and smile. He is already missed by all who knew him. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 27 from 3:00-5:00pm at The Island Funeral Home (4 Cardinal Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926) and a funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28 beginning at 11:00am at Island Lutheran Church (4400 Main Street, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926) with a reception and light lunch offered to all who attend. The family asks that donations made in his honor go to his beloved church, Island Lutheran.
