Robert McIntyre
June 22nd, 1933 - March 14th, 2014
Biography Robert Clayton McIntyre, of Longmont, passed away on March 13, 2014. He was born on June 22, 1933 to Allen and Myrtle “Lamirande” McIntyre in Cloquet, Minnesota, where he grew up. He graduated from St. Thomas Military Academy High School in 1952 and joined the Marine Corps after graduation. In 1963, he married his best friend, Sonja Anderson, in Windom, KS. A love of Colorado settled them in Littleton. Bob earned his pilot’s license and in the early days of their marriage he enjoyed flying himself and his wife back to Kansas to visit her family. He had a love of all things fast as evidenced by a garage containing both a motorcycle and a corvette convertible. Bob’s professional career started him at Lockheed Martin for two years before accepting a position with IBM where he would remain for more than 30 years. After a 4-year assignment in San Jose California the family settled in Longmont in 1977. Summers were spent on the Anderson farm in Windom Kansas helping with the family wheat harvest. Both daughters have fond memories of sitting on Bob’s lap and “helping” drive the giant combine or tractors in the fields. Bob was very proud of his Scottish heritage and passed his love for Scotland and being Scottish on to his daughters. Bob and youngest daughter Boni were proud representatives of the Clan MacIntyre association at the Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival for more than 15 years. A definite highlight was a father daughter trip to Oban Scotland in 2008 to see the ancestral MacIntyre lands. It was this trip that inspired Bob to learn to play the Bagpipes. Although he never mastered the instrument he sure had fun trying. Bob was never more proud than when playing grandpa to his wonderful grandson Matthew born in 2000. He also had great love for his step-grandchildren Michelle and Ryan and would speak proudly of the accomplishments of all three to anyone who would listen. Bob is survived by his Daughters Boni McIntyre of Lakewood and Sheri (Robert) Short of Longmont. He was a loving grandfather to Matthew, Ryan and Michelle Short. He was preceded in death by his wife Sonja (Anderson) McIntyre, parents and a brother, Father Allen McIntyre. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will follow at 1:15pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob’s name to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. nmcrs.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carroll-Lewellen Funeral & Cremation Services. Service Information A service summary is not available
