Robert I. Moyer
November 8th, 1916 - August 30th, 2006
Mr. Robert I. Moyer, 89, of Ft. Plain passed away Wednesday afternoon at home with his family by his side. Born on November 8, 1916 he was the son of the late Glenn and Florence Moyer. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1934 graduate of Ft. Plain High School. Mr. Moyer graduated in 1940 from Rice University in Houston, Texas. He first was employed by Norwich Pharmaceutical and then Palatine Dye, before going to work for Lee Dye Inc. of Johnstown as a textile chemist. Mr. Moyer was a former member of the Ft. Plain Central School District Board of Education for 15 years and a member of the Central Mohawk Valley Lions Club. He also was a member of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists for over 50 years. Mr. Moyer also served for a time with the United States Army during WWII. On October 29, 1942 he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Sawyer. That union lasted 55 years until her passing on May 5, 1997. He was also predeceased by one sister, Agnes Hornbeck and a daughter, Judith Ann Moyer. His loving family includes three daughters, Sharon Tavern and her husband Robert of Richfield Springs, NY, Eileen Chambers and her husband Frederick of Ft. Plain, NY and Mary Wolaniak and her husband Stanley of Boulder, CO; four grandchildren, Mark Tavern and his wife Emily Rabin of New York City, Benjamin Wolaniak of San Francisco, CA, Amy Tavern and her husband Michael Schorr of Seattle, WA and Sarah Chambers of Ft. Plain, NY; other family members include, Robert Sitterly of Ft. Plain, NY, Melissa Miller and her husband Gene of Fly Creek, NY, Abigail Miller of Fly Creek, NY, Mark Chambers and his wife Michelle of Elgin, IL, and his canine companion ?Ruthie.? Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 2p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street. Canajoharie, NY 13317. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 1 until 2. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 201 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12068.
