Robert J. Riley

Mr. Robert J. Riley, 75, of Wesleyan Avenue, Amsterdam, died peacefully at Ellis Hospital, on Monday, December 2, 2012. Robert was born on March 3, 1937, to the late Susan and Charles Riley of McKees Rocks, PA. He was predeacsed by his brother, James, and his sister, Barbara. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jane. Together, they had a full and active life. His friends were his family, and they rallied round him for comfort and support in his final days. He left a group of devoted friends in Orlando also, where he and his wife would escape the harsh winter weather. Everyone will remember Bob for his sense of humor and quick wit. Bob was a chemistry teacher for 33 years at Amsterdam High School. He had a BS in chemistry and biology from Slippery Rock College, and an MS from Union College. He was a dedicated teacher who motivated many of his students to follow a career in science. He was happiest fishing and boating on the Sacandaga with his best buddy, Matt, or on one of the lakes in Florida with Tom. He was an outstanding pool player and could give anyone a challenge. His buddies in Orlando will miss him. In recent years, he was content to do simple things. He grew tomatoes in his side yard, watched the birds in the back yard and planted grass in the front yard. May he rest in peace. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 11 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
