Robert "Bob" Edward Rose
October 6th, 1930 - August 26th, 2024
Dad was a soldier, husband and father. In his time as a soldier, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 31st Infantry Regiment.
His first active-duty post was in Japan. He served as security for General MacArther’s headquarters. He also guarded the Bank of Yokohama and the Imperial Palace. With the Outbreak of the Korean Conflict, he was part of the Inchon Landing. Later he was at Chosin Revisor, having been sent into help get the Marines out before the Chinese could trap them and force a surrender. He was a forward observer for mortars and would call in coordinates on the field phone. Dad was a part of 5major campaigns. He was awarded the Purple Heart having been hit with a grenade.
After military service he returned to his home in Iowa and went to work for Fisher Governor Company. There he met the woman that would become his wife and mother of his children. Ethel Marie Mason became Ethel Marie Rose and together they had three children, two sons and a daughter Vincent, Todd, and Melinda. Dad is survived by his three children, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. During this time Dad went to barber college and later opened his own barbershop in Marshalltown.
In 1970 the family moved from Iowa to Fort Collins, Colorado. Eventually Dad opens the West Mountain Avenue Barbershop. After a few years he went to work for Woodward Governor Company in October of 1979 as one of three barbers working to keep the men that worked there looking sharp. He worked for Woodward as a barber until Woodward closed the barbershops on all their sites. From there he was moved to working as a security guard until he retired in 2009.
Dad saw his wife pass away in 2010. Now Dad has moved on to be with her again with Jesus. After a lengthy time of decline Dad went into hospice care in late August of 2024. Four days later Dad passed away in his sleep.
Memorial Service will be held at Viegut Funeral Home on September 4th, 2024 at 11 am.
