Robert Drue Sharpe
April 16th, 1946 - June 11th, 2024
Robert Drue Sharpe (Bob) born April 16, 1946, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Bob was born in Hillingdon, England to the late Muller Drue and Barbara Richards Sharpe. He was a graduate of Columbia High School and served three years in the United States Air Force. After serving in the Air Force, he began his career at Jeff Hunt Machinery (Caterpillar) and Blanchard Machinery (Caterpillar), where he worked a total of 56 years. In addition to his “day job”, he served the West Columbia community as a Reserve Police Officer since 1978. For his dedication to the community, he was awarded the Order of the Palmetto in 2009.
Bob is predeceased by his parents and a brother, James Edmund “Jimmy” Sharpe.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda (Hinson); daughter, Donna Prevatte; grandchildren, Michele (Jason) Fowler and Nickolas (Julie) Prevatte; granddog, Cocoa; great-grandchildren, Noah and Maelynn; siblings: Vikki Allen, Teresa (Charles) Seibert, Alice (Steven) Douglas, Chris (Liz) Sharpe, Billy Sharpe and numerous nieces and nephews, who thought “Uncle Bob” was the greatest.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, 11AM at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Columbia, SC, with the burial to follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens, West Columbia, SC. The visitation for friends and family will take place on Thursday, June 13 from 5-7PM. Please note that at St. Timothy’s, there will be additional parking on the corner of Laurel and Lincoln St.
Memorials may be given to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church Remembrance Fund.
