Robert L. Shell

Robert L. Shell, age 91, of Gloversville, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, Gloversville. He was born August 24, 1931 in Gloversville, the son of Bertram and Helene (Anthony) Shell. He served in the US Navy and was later employed at his family business, B.E. Shell Company. He then worked as an electrician at Asphalt Stone Company which later became Callanan Industries of Schenectady. He served on the Gloversville Water Board in many capacities for over 40 years. He was an active member of Masonic Lodge #429 which became St. Patrick's Lodge #3. He enjoyed woodworking and making stained glass. He loved reading and local history. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and other activities. Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Leibl) Shell; three children, Gregory Shell (Christine) and their children, Sarah (Vincent Grant) and Abbey Shell; Susan Ponticello and her children, Anthony and Michaela Ponticello, Matthew Shell (Kimberly); and their children, Jacob and Hannah Shell; two sisters, Eleanor Waite and Audrey LaGanke; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Richard Shell. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 pm Friday, December 30th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Masonic Ritual will follow at 4 pm, followed by a Memorial Service with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.
