Smith, Jr., Robert E. ?Bob?, 87 of St. Petersburg, formerly of Neptune Beach, died Saturday May 27, 2006 at Edward White Hospital, St. Petersburg. Born in Atlanta, GA., he came here in 1989 from Neptune Beach, FL. He was a retired Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, having served during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. With 26 years of service, he was highly decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, American Defense Service Medal, America Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Victory Medal World War II, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the National Defense Service Medal. Later he was a teacher in Mayport Junior High School for 17 years, and an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Doris E.; a daughter, Judith R. ?Judy? Hales, St. Petersburg; a son Robert E. ?Rob? Smith, III, Orange Park, FL; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
