Robert Hugh Tolbert

Robert Hugh Tolbert “Bob” passed away January 31st, 2013 at Hope Village assisted living in Canby, Oregon. He was 89 1/2. He was born July 5th, 1923 in Minot, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm in Breckenridge, MN where he had many responsibilities. He attended grade 1-8 in a one room school house and then Breckenridge High School where he graduated. He joined the Air Force in WWII but lost his right arm at age 19 in a threshing machine accident and was unable to serve. He attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho and received his teaching certificate and Bachelor of Arts Degree. While at N.N.C. he met and married Eileen May Littlefield Sept. 8th, 1945 in Kalama, WA. Bob began his teaching career in Idaho and continued in Oregon and Washington where he retired from Coweeman Jr. High in Kelso, Washington in 1981. He taught for 33 years. Bob attended Seattle Pacific University and received his Master’s degree during his career. In 1957 he was a charter member of the Woodland Church of the Nazarene and was an active member. He was also a member of Ridgefield Nazarene and Canby Oregon, Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of Gideons International Vancouver, WA chapter. He loved to read, travel and visit with friends. He is survived by his children; Gary of Kalama, WA; Sue (Chuck Dye) of Canby, OR; Tim (Delilah Gonzales) Belen, NM; his brother Norman Tolbert of Breckenridge, MN; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Eileen and parents Earl and Iva Tolbert. A Memorial Service will be held Feb. 9, 2013 (Sat) 10:00 AM Ridgefield Church of the Nazarene, 747 Pioneer Rd, Ridgefield, WA. Contributions can be made to Gideons International.
