Robert Alan Troup, Sr. (Bobby, Bobby T), 60 years old, of Arlington, VA, passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2017. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 17 from 6-9 pm at Advent Funeral Home located at 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA, 22046. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 18 at Advent Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at 1:00 pm at the nearby National Memorial Park located at 7482 Lee Highway in Falls Church, VA. Bobby was born in Endicott, NY on June 16, 1956 and as a toddler moved with his mother and three brothers to Arlington, VA. He was an ‘Arlington boy’ through and through, spending essentially the rest of his life in Arlington. In his youth he regularly attended Bethel United Church of Christ in Arlington with his mother and brothers where they sat proudly in their family pew. His mother’s family, the Diesselhorsts, were long-time active members of the church with one of the ministers being from the family. Bobby’s parents were married in this church as well as his eldest brother, Roger. This Christian upbringing had a lasting impact on Bobby and his kind, generous nature. He believed strongly in God and Jesus Christ. Much of Bobby’s early work was in masonry. He was rigorously trained by his “Uncle Jimmy”, a family friend who was a master bricklayer. Unfortunately, while in his early 20’s, Bobby had to change from this line of work after sustaining a serious work related injury resulting in the loss of sight in one eye. While driving with Bobby in the Northern Virginia area, he would point out chimneys, walkways, walls etc. that he had built years before. Being tall and strong in body, Bobby did professional moving for many years, twice owning his own moving businesses and moving trucks. During his later years in the moving business he demonstrated his creativity by decorating home interiors while assisting in Home Staging. Additionally, Bobby was a well trained plumber and handyman, completing numerous home projects and renovations through the years. He worked hard his entire life, however due to cumulative injuries incurred over his career; he had been disabled for the last few years. In all areas of his work, Bobby was known for his fairness and honesty. Bobby had many interests. He loved fishing, nature and the outdoors. Animals were a great love of his, in particular his pet dogs and cats. He also spoke of having a pet skunk in his youth (minus a gland)! His most recent pet was his beloved Treeing Walker Coonhound, Ellie Mae, who was rescued from a shelter seven years ago. He enjoyed carpentry, attending auctions, and going antiquing. He collected antique decorative arts and furniture. Bobby will probably be best remembered for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor, his huge infectious smile, his love of fun; dancing, music (especially Country and Blues), socializing and partying. He was a born entertainer and he loved to bring joy and laughter to people. His Grandmother told him repeatedly when he was a little boy that he should be a performer when he grew up! Bobby loved family and was a loyal friend. He delighted in helping and spending time with the elderly and the young. He regularly visited the elderly mothers of his friends and helped disabled individuals get to their medical appointments, even when his own health was failing. He understood children and knew how to enthrall them. He had a remarkably loving and generous heart, regularly assisting and sharing with people, especially with those less fortunate than himself. Robert Troup (Bobby) is survived by two brothers, Roger Scott Troup of Manassas, VA and David Dean Troup of Anaheim, CA; two beloved sons, Robert Alan Troup, Jr. of Springfield, VA and Daniel Edmond Troup of Savannah, GA, and one baby grandson, Dashiell, son of Daniel. He leaves behind cousins, nieces, nephews and untold number of friends. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Laurel Lydia Diesselhorst Troup and Ralph Edmond Troup, his brother Craig Edmond Troup and the mother of his two sons, Donna Wheatley Troup. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to assist with the funeral arrangements. There is a GO FUND ME page on FACEBOOK which can be found on Bobby Troup’s page. Only a few days ago, Bobby said emphatically with his infectious smile, “I didn’t have a hard life, I had a GREAT life”. The family hopes you will join us in celebrating Robert Alan Troup’s life
