DARDENNE, Robert W. 66, of St Petersburg, died on October 17, 2013. Bob was a journalism professor at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg for 22 years. A native of Baton Rouge, La., he worked as a news reporter, editor and feature writer in Louisiana, Mexico, New York and Washington D.C. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He earned academic degrees from Louisiana State University, the University of Florida and the University of Iowa. Prior to coming to USFSP, he was a journalism professor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. As a Fulbright Scholar in 1999-2000, he taught at Shanghai International Studies University in China. Bob was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife Barbara O'Reilley, their son Robert, and a large extended family of friends and former students around the country and the world. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, October 23, at 3 p.m. in the courtyard of the Peter Rudy Wallace Center for Teachers on the USFSP campus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Robert Dardenne Memorial Fund, University of South Florida St. Petersburg, 140 7th Avenue South, WMS 200, St Petersburg, FL 33701. A second memorial gathering will be held in Baton Rouge on Saturday, October 26.
