Robert Joseph Wylie
September 23rd, 1930 - July 13th, 2021
Robert Joseph Wylie September 23, 1930 †" July 13, 2021 Robert †œBob† Wylie passed away early in the morning on July 13, 2021 at the age of 90. He left this world peacefully while sleeping at his home in Arvada Colorado. Robert was born September 23, 1930 in Aruba, NWI, while his father (Roy) worked there for Standard Oil. He was the first American actually born in Aruba. Robert spent his first 14 years there and returned to the US with his mother (Madeline) and brother (Richard) in 1943. After spending a few months in Iowa, Robert moved into the family home in Boulder, Colorado in 1944. He graduated from Boulder High School in 1948 and enrolled at Colorado University. He went to school and worked various odd jobs until he joined the Air Force in 1950. After basic training (in Mississippi, Denver and California), he was stationed in South Korea where he worked on the P-51 aircraft radio communication systems. He returned to the US for 6 months and stayed in Albuquerque, NM, building additional skills before he volunteered to return to Korea. Since he had already done one tour in Korea, he was then stationed in Tachikawa, Japan, for the remainder of his time in the service. In 1954 he left the Air Force and after traveling a bit, he returned to Boulder, Colorado where he worked at several jobs and also picked up more classes at Colorado University. In November 1956 he married Wilma Wagner who he met while working at Esquire Coronet. Robert and Wilma had a large family of 5 children between 1958 and 1966 (three boys and two girls). In 1963 he moved his family from Boulder, Colorado to his current house in Arvada, Colorado, where he spent the rest of his life. In 1957 he joined Martin Marietta and worked there for 10 years before changing jobs to work at Rocky Flats (Dow Chemical) as an electrical foreman. Robert retired from Rocky Flats on September 2, 1992 after being there for 25 years. Robert spent his retirement years doing things with his family and extended family. He liked to golf, bowl, travel, and to explore the local cuisine on his travels or visits with family. He went on golf trips in Oregon and Hawaii, playing as many courses as possible. He took a trip back to Aruba with 3 of his children and their families where he got to relive his youth. Robert took frequent family trips to the Wagner cattle ranch in New Mexico as well as to his Aunt Mary†™s house in Florence Colorado. In his later years he would take month long vacation trips and occasionally some family members would tag along. He would explore different states in the US, and included a few trips up into Canada. Robert was preceded in death by his father Roy Wylie, his mother Madeline Wylie, his sister Royla Wylie and his brother Richard Wylie. Robert is survived by his beloved wife Wilma Wylie, his son†™s Jim Wylie (8 children, - 7 grandchildren- 1 great grandchild), Bill Wylie (1 child - 2 grandchildren) and Dan Wylie and his daughter†™s Cindy Wayne (1 child) and Christy Edwards (2 children). Per Robert†™s request, he wants his passing to be observed as a simple family affair and he wanted no service, funeral or flowers. Robert will be cremated and wishes to have his ashes spread at the New Mexico ranch sometime in the future.
