Robert Young 61, died June 8th 2015 Bob was born at Puget Sound Hospital in Tacoma, Washington on March 29, 1954 to Marion R. "Bud" and Rose Young. He attended Roosevelt Elementary, Gault and Jason Lee Jr. High and graduated from Lincoln High in 1972. He made many lifelong friends during his school years. Bob didn't participate in any of the traditional high school sports...but if Table Tennis was a varsity sport, Bob would have been a team leader. He had a high speed slam and a lightning quick return. He could play for hours and really enjoyed taking on all comers. After high school Bob worked as a machinist in Tacoma and then moved to Broken Arrow Oklahoma. He worked for Bedford Tooling during the time that automated machining was starting to displace the traditional machinist. He overcame the challenge by learning to set up and operate CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milling machines...eventually becoming a Quality Control Inspector. As Bob grew into adulthood people discovered how kind hearted he was. The kind of a person who would help you change a flat tire or go out of his way to be sure you made it home safe. He was full of good intentions, and willing to give the shirt off his back, but many times his desire to help went well beyond his ability to do so. Bob liked people, never met a stranger, loved to hang out with his friends and was known as a bit of a chatterbox. In his free time Bob loved to play softball. He wasn't a long ball hitter, but good at hitting to the gaps and using his speed to get around the bases. He also enjoyed bass fishing in Oklahoma and spent lots of time competing with his uncles for the first and largest fish. In 1990 Bob returned to Tacoma and joined the Ironworkers Union. He worked on several construction projects in Seattle and Tacoma with his brothers, Rick and Randy. Late in 1990 Bob decided to seek greener pastures and moved to California. He was working on a California construction project in November of 2000 when a portion of the decking he was walking on caved in. He survived this near fatal industrial accident, but struggled the rest of his life to overcome his injuries. He spent most of his last years in devoted service to his mother. The family wants to give a special thanks to Jamie for being there and standing by Bob for all those years...and to Johnny for being his lifelong friend. Additional thanks go to the caregivers who helped Bob at the Franciscan Health Dialysis Center and to Debra White for helping handle his affairs. Robert James Young was preceded in death by his father Marion R. (Bud) Young, survived by his mother Rose Mary Young; brothers Dennis (Susann), Richard (Jo), Marvin and Randy. Funeral Service will be held at SS Peter & Paul Perish, 3422 Portland Ave. Tacoma, WA 98404 on Saturday June 27, beginning with a family led Rosary at 11:00 am. A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to SS Peter & Paul Perish.
