Roberto, †œRobert/Bobby† Vasquez age 51 was escorted to Heaven in the arms of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday June 1, 2016, he died at home unexpectedly. Robert was a graduated from Los Fresnos High School in 1984, where he was a member of student council and the football team. He attended Pan Handle State University, Tarlenton State and Texas State University while working towards his degree in Sports with a specialty in coaching. While in high school and college he worked on the family farm. Robert moved to Colorado in 1988 to spend the summer with his brother Rene; he extended his stay returning to his beloved Texas for a short time in 1991 before returning to and settling in Colorado permanently. Robert†™s career was in trucking distribution working in management. During his career he was employed by USFD Dugan, Mid-West Motor (17 years) and Aspen Distribution. Robert also coached numerous sports teams and refereed. In June 1996 he married his Soul-mate Laura Mello, they settled in Broomfield where they have raised their daughters Julia and Miya. Robert†™s three girls were his shining lights, brightening each of his days. Robert had a very active role in the lives of Julia and Miya he attended school band and music performances and other activities. He shared his passion for sports with his girls. He coached the girls youth soccer, t- ball and softball teams. Robert was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and he cheered loudly and proudly for them always. He loved taking his family to Texas to spend time on the Vasquez Family Farm so they could experience the things he experienced growing up surrounded by family. In Colorado Robert and Laura made family and friends an important and integral part of their lives. Robert had a Passion for all things softball; playing Adult Co-ed Softball and Men†™s Softball in Colorado for many years. He played for many years on the Free Agents Co-ed team and the Beer Drinkers Gone Bad Men†™s team. When his daughter, Miya caught her Dad†™s contagious love for the game Robert became more involved in girls†™ softball. He worked hard to improve the game for girls throughout the state. Robert†™s efforts and determination made him a Major force in the Denver girls†™ softball community. Robert was a co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Girls Fastpitch Association, RMGFA. His goal was that every girl who wanted to play softball would have opportunities to reach their full potential on the field and off. Robert along with RMGFA Co-founder Matt Baldner felt they could help the girls reach this potential by having an association that is dedicated to surrounding the girls with skilled and dedicated coaches and mentors. Robert encouraged the girls to give back to their communities, Colorado and the Country and he did this by example. Robert held softball fundraising events including events that supported SIDS. In November 2013 Robert organized the RMGFA in a fund raising tournament named Bat Aid in Arvada to raise funds for the Lyons Athletic program after the area was ravaged by floods. They surpassed their goal by raising over $2,000.00 Robert presented the check to the Lyons principal Greg Winger at Lyons†™ temporary high school in Longmont in November 2013.
