Memorial

On July 17, 2014, Rock Glen Bastian, 60, of Larkspur, passed away with family at his side. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Both the Visitation and the Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the LDS Church - Plum Creek Building, 950 Plum Creek Blvd., Castle Rock, CO 80104. The Grave Dedication will follow immediately after the services at the Church. Rock was born June 7, 1954 in Richfield, Utah to L. Max Bastian and Yvonne Swindle Bastian. He spent his youth in Utah and graduated in 1972 from Dixie High School in St. George. In addition to being Captain of the football team he ran track. He graduated as a member of the "Diamond D" one of just fourteen students recognized for their service, and chosen as one of the "Men of the Hour," for their overall accomplishments. Rock studied at Utah State University, and graduated in 1976 with degrees in Biology and Chemistry, then continued his studies at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Rock served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Seattle, Washington. This experience was the cornerstone for his life. Rock strove to live according to the words of Christ, and those who knew him would say he was unwavering in his faith, humble, patient and desired to serve others. He built a successful company as a general contractor, specializing in roofing as well as fencing, and decking; in Colorado, Washington, California and Idaho. He volunteered to coach his son Spencer's baseball team, help build houses on reservations through the Red Feather Foundation, held many position as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and helped with the relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina. He always sought knowledge, and read extensively, and was conversant in History, Science, Medicine,Veterinary Medicine and Theology. His desire for knowledge sometimes irritated his kids as his response when they were bored was to "Read a book or pull weeds." Rock married Melanie Dawn Whaley, June 24, 1988, at the Denver LDS temple. Together they had five children and three grandchildren that they absolutely adored. Even in illness he cherished the time he spent with his family. He always had a welcoming smile and handshake for visitors. He liked everything outdoors, and hunted with his children. He built his home where he could watch Colorado sunsets with his family, and have some land he could enjoy, and share with others. His nieces and nephews enjoyed barbeques by the pond, fishing for trout, and ice skating in the dark. Hundreds of youth camped, fished, had fires and sang songs at the "Bastians". Rock was preceded in death by his son Lane Shelby Bastian, brother Kelly Max Bastian and nephew Kyle Max Bastian. He is survived by his parents L. Max Bastian and Yvonne Swindle Bastian, his wife Melanie Dawn Bastian (Whaley), his children Jessica Wood (Daniel), (grandchildren Mckenzie Wood, Abigail Wood and Katherine Wood), Max Bastian, Spencer Bastian (Kylynn), Bree Bastian, and sisters Toni Kingston (Paul), Kimberlee Schreiber, Yvette Merrell (Orson), Anecia Sisneros (Beau), Robyn Bastian and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, all donations can be made to the: General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Service Information
