Rod Herman

Rod battled pancreatic cancer bravely for 2 years. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Colfax, Washington to Ruby & Ed Herman. He was a 3 sport athlete at Colfax High School. He started college at Washington State University in 1968. He returned there later in life & graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1988. Rod was immediately recruited to the Bay Area & spent almost 20 years as an Applications Analyst for Chevron. In 1989 , he met the love of his life and best friend, Jacki Gray. They were married in 1992 & enjoyed traveling around the world together. Their favorite places included Paris, Rome, London, Germany, Australia, New Zealand & all the Hawaiian islands. Rod & Jacki also shared a love of food, wine, music & dancing, classic rock concerts & spending time with family & friends. Golf became a passion for Rod after age 40, & was another interest they shared. After he retired, he became a certified golf instructor, but that was cut short after his cancer diagnosis. Also mourning the loss of Rod are his 3 sons from his first marriage, Mike(Marci) Miller of Oregon, Jerry Herman of Antioch, & Dan (Sarah) Herman of Arizona. Also missing their grandfather are his 4 grandsons, Devin & Trevor Miller & Thomas & Caleb Herman. Rod shared many rounds of golf with his sons, holiday dinners, barbeques, love of rock music & card games. A celebration of Rod's life will be held in August. Donations can be made in his name to the Cancer Support Community in Walnut Creek, Pan Can & Hospice of the East Bay.
