Rod Hitchiner, 60, a resident of University Place, passed away on May 2, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Rod was born to Pearl Nystrom and Nicholas Hitchiner in San Francisco, California on January 2, 1956. He grew up in Napa, California and attended Napa High School followed by three years in the U.S. Army at Ft. Lewis, WA. With an MOS as an Expert Mortar Gunner. While stationed at Fort Lewis , he met his wife, Marcie Auburg. Rod was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Hitchiner and his brother, Lon Hitchiner. He is survived by his wife, Marcie, his mother, Pearl (Bill) Nystrom, sister, Rhonna Kramer, son, Joshua (Rena) Hitchiner, daughter, Corina (Ray Humphreys) Haller and grandchildren, Tyler, Joseph, Olivia Haller, Ciara Humphreys and Nicholas and Matthew Hitchiner. Rod’s career was that of a skilled journeyman automobile mechanic. Everyone came to Rod with the tough jobs and questions, he was very skilled at troubleshooting obscure issues often by having his clients mimic the funny noises the car was making. One of his other favorite things to do was mentoring. He always enjoyed helping others succeed. He felt his purpose in life was to teach. Among his many other hobbies was NASCAR, hunting, fishing, and scouting. Rod was a true outdoorsman. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. He will truly be missed by family and friends.
