Meldrum Mortuary & Crematory
Rodney J Miller
September 4th, 1947 - May 16th, 2024
Rodney "Rod" J. Miller, 76, of Mesa, AZ peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on the morning of May 16, 2024.
Rod dedicated his life to hard work, meaningful conversations, great one-liners and everlasting laughs. Though, more and most importantly he dedicated his life to being the absolute best and most loving father to his daughter, Tiffany and her husband Dan. He relished his role as a proud, doting, fun and ever-present grandfather to the apple of his eyes, his two grandchildren, Ronin and Reagan.
Rod was born on September 4, 1947 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Jey A. and Mary Inez Rummel Miller. Rod and the family moved around the country as his father built churches and buildings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rod loved telling childhood stories of the places he lived: Higley, AZ ; Mesa, AZ; Battle Creek, MI; Port Huron, MI; Rockville, MD.
In 1966, Rod graduated from Westwood High School. Shortly afterwards he was called to serve the Lord as a missionary in Montreal, Canada. Later in life he joined America West Airlines (US Airways / American Airlines). For years, Rod enthusiastically volunteered as a wing member of the Arizona's Commemorative Air Force. Upon retiring from the airlines, Rod spent time working, playing golf, and volunteering in Tonto Basin, AZ; Algonac, MI; Alexandria, VA; Mesa, AZ and Casa Grande, AZ.
Rod will forever be remembered as someone who cherished his family, his friends, his country, and his God. Always the life of the party with a fun sense of humor, a hard worker and a man passionate in his beliefs, he was and is loved and adored by all who know him.
Rod is survived by his daughter Tiffany and her husband, Maj. Daniel E. Dinneen, USMC; his beloved grandchildren, Ronin and Reagan; his brother and sisters and their spouses: James Craig (Juel), Marci Miller Riggs (David), and Malinda "Mindy" Miller (Tom Almour), sister-in-law Barbara Done Miller, along with many, wonderful nephews, nieces and cousins. He also leaves behind his close step-daughter Crystal and her husband Jeff Thies, along with their children, Jett, Aspen and Easton, all whom he loved as his own children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving parents and dear brothers, John Reed Miller and Scott LeRoy Miller.
We would like to express our deep thanks to all the family members and friends, caretakers, and medical professionals who helped him in his final years with dementia.
A celebration of life will be held at the Church on 613 N Stewart, Mesa, AZ on May 24 at 10 am, afterwards Rod will be peacefully laid to rest, at Mesa Cemetery at 11:30am. There will be a viewing held on both May 23 from 6:00-8:00pm at Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa, AZ.
