Dr. Rodney Alva Heater "Doc Rod", age 84, of Payette, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017. He was born May 18, 1932 to Alva and Louise (Burley) Heater in Ontario, OR. Rodney was raised and attended school in Ontario. During this time he discovered his passion for music. Rodney played many instruments and joined the Ontario school band at an early age. His favorite instrument was the trombone which he played in the TVCC Dixieland Band and the Jazz Band. After high school he attended College of Idaho, during this time he served in the U.S. Army and where he met his forever sweetheart, Elizabeth Suzan Riddlemoser. He served in the U.S. Army before they were married in August of 1957. He served in the Army National Guard as he continued his education at Pacific University where he majored in optometry. After becoming Rodney A. Heater, O.D., he opened his practice in Payette in 1961. Rodney was the president of the state of Idaho Optometric Association 1975-76 and was Optometrist of the Year in 1982. He was a longtime member of the Payette Kiwanis and a member of the Elks Lodge #1690 in Ontario. Rodney had a passion for people and always took his time with his patients; helping them with their vision was his priority. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Elizabeth Suzan Heater; his daughter Ann Elizabeth Heater; his son Bradley Regan Heater; a sister-in-law Jacqui Riddlemoser; nephews Mike Riddlemoser and Greg Riddlemoser and niece Kathy Riddlemoser. Rodney is preceded in death by his parents Alva and Louise Heater; his half-sister Marna Schultz; and brother-in-law Jack Riddlemoser. A viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in Payette. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb 10th at the Church of the Nazarene in Payette with Pastor John Schaffer officiating. Services will conclude at the church.
