Roger A. Gallant
February 22nd, 1924 - August 21st, 2013
Roger A. Gallant, 89, of Englewood, FL died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Tidewell Hospice House in Venice. Born on February 22, 1924 in Manchester, NH to Aubin and Albertine Gallant. He has been a resident of Florida for 20 years, coming from Chicopee, MA. Roger enlisted in the Navy in 1942 in Manchester, NH. He attended Navigational Quartermaster School and was a member of the crew for the Landing Ship Tank 1016. While at sea Mr. Gallant was promoted to Navigational Quartermaster 3/C and saw action from Australia all the way to Yokohama, Japan where the war came to an end. After discharge he went to work for the Air Transport Command as a Topographical Draftsman designing radio facility charts for the Air Force Air Transit Command. After two years he went into the printing trade for 19 years. After this he became a Police Officer for the city of Chicopee, MA. Roger was a Dog Obedience Trainer for over 50 Years owning two training schools and also trained dogs for the State and City Police Departments. Mr. Gallant also served as a Dog Obedience AKC Judge for some 25 years. He was a past chairman of Lemon Bay MSBU, head of the Port Charlotte LST for many years and associated with the West Coast Church in Englewood. Roger is survived by his wife of 20 years: Helen; daughter: Linda Lee (Charles) Chowns of Laderach, PA; son: Roger Bruce (Elizabeth) Gallant of Nantucket, MA; step son: John W. Russell of Allen, TX; step daughter: Beronica Russell of Allen, TX; grandson: Christopher Gallant of Nantucket, MA and two sisters: Janet Wiley of Laconia, NH; Lorraine McKinney of Manchester, NH. A Memorial Service with in-urnment and Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Sarasota National V.A. Cemetery.
