Roger H. Phillips

Roger H. Phillips, 78, of Pattersonville Road, passed away peacefully Saturday at his home. Born in Winona, Minn. on August 31, 1934, the son of the late Floyd and Verna May Hom Phillips, he came to the Hagaman area as a child with his family. Roger was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and later Cobleskill Community College. He then began a thirty seven year career with Niagara Mohawk, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman, and served as a deacon and long time treasurer of the church. Roger loved travelling and RV camping and was a member of the Rocky Ridge Hunting Camp. He also volunteered as a tax preparer at the Inman Center in Amsterdam and was an avid Yankees fan. On Sept. 7, 1957 he was united in marriage to the former Cora Audrey Chamberlin. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his children; Kevin Nicole Phillips and Dawn Ken Knapp all of Broadalbin, and Dean Erin Phillips of Scotia; grandchildren; Kenneth Knapp III, Jessica Knapp, Gabrielle Elliott, Alison Moynihan, Emma and Olivia Phillips; sisters Eleanor Downey of Detroit Mich., Lois Austin and Carol Dennis Miller, a brother Charles Carol Phillips all of Hagaman and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by daughter Karen Lynn Phillips and infant son Roger Jr. and a grandson Ryan Jacob Knapp. A service to celebrate his life will take place Thursday at 11:00 am at the Calvary Reformed Church, 10 Church St. Hagaman. The Rev. Lindsey DeKruif, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagaman Mills Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his beloved Calvary Reformed Church, or GAVAC both in care of the funeral home office.
