Roger A. Ponton
June 24th, 1929 - September 28th, 2021
Belchertown - Roger A. Ponton, 92, of Christopher Heights passed away on September 28, 2021 at Care One at Redstone in East Longmeadow. He was born on June 24, 1929 in Holyoke, MA to Armand and Doucia (Chartier) Ponton. Roger resided in Granby for 50 years, before moving to Christopher Heights' in Belchertown in November of 2020. He proudly served his country in the US Army serving in the Korean War as well as in the Marine Corp Reserves for two years. He was a member of the Granby American Legion, Chicopee Sportsman's Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his younger years , he enjoyed rodeoing and loved to listen to country music and line dance. He was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne L. (Levreault) Ponton, his son, Steven Ponton and sisters, Claire Brunelle and Jeannette McOuat. He is survived by his son, David Ponton of Lake City, FL, a sister, Lucille Giroux (Raymond) of South Hadley. He also leaves a step-daughter, Christine Ichton (Stephen) of Chicopee, 4 step-grandchildren, Beau, Abby, Ian and Kimberly and nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his caregiver, Tammy Bibeau. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 10:00am-12:00 pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A graveside service will immediately follow in West Cemetery in Granby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Granby American Legion.
