Roger O'Neal Rogers

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger O’Neal Rogers, a wonderful husband of 66+ years to wife Alice and an amazing father to daughter, Valarie (Jones). Roger was an avid tennis player at Northeast Racquet Club and then for 30 years at Feather Sound Country Club, playing USTA at a national team level. When he wasn’t playing tennis, you could find him in his garage fulfilling his passion for carpentry and woodworking. He built many pieces of furniture and cabinets, crafting an outdoor wet bar, kitchen table and coffee tables from an entire bowling lane! Roger loved fishing and crabbing in the waters behind our NE St. Petersburg home of 28 years. Professionally, Roger brought his business acumen and innate taste in fashion building a successful career in retail with Maas Brothers and affiliated Jordan Marsh department stores, as a manager, buyer and designer of men’s and women’s fashion. His love for clothes has been passed down to his grandson, Brandon Jones, who often looked to his Grandpa Gee for advice with his vintage clothing business. Roger hails from Myrtle Beach, SC and was part of the infamous Rogers Boys along with older brother Barton and younger brother, Victor. Roger will be best remembered for his ability to make people around him laugh with his famous quick wit, a joke at the ready and his captivating storytelling.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Suncoast Hospice in his name would be greatly appreciated.
