Ron Hansen

November 17th, 1937 - October 8th, 2020

Ronald Jay Hansen was born November 17,1937 in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away October 8th, 2020 with a smile on his face at his Lake Oswego home surrounded by family. As a first-generation American, Ron was fiercely proud of his Danish heritage (Skal!) He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Whittier College in 1961. Post college, he achieved his dream (albeit a short-lived two-week stint) of playing in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers. He spent one year in the US Army in the Southern states where he developed his aversion to catfish and tuna casserole. In 1963, Ron met the love of his life, Viola (“Vi”) in Los Angeles, California. They were married for 55 years. The center of Ron’s world was his family which includes his one and only granddaughter, Luci, who brought much joy into his life. A highlight of Luci’s periodic visits was an outing for sushi followed by ice cream—a treasured tradition cherished by both “Grandpa” and Luci. Ron enjoyed nothing more than a large, extended family gathering. The annual family Thanksgiving celebration held a special place in his heart. Was it the food or the family that took top billing? Probably equal measures of both. You could always count on Ron to crack a joke and to serve as the “life of the party” with his quick wit and sparkling blue eyes. He truly was a friend to all. Ron had a passion for all things real estate that continued with him throughout his life. His enjoyment of people was evident in his 40+ years as a Realtor where doing what’s right and where the principle in a given situation were paramount to the way he conducted himself. His work ethic was second to none and he refused to retire. Interests also included the history of WW II and travel. Paris and Prague were favorite destinations. A man of deep Christian faith, Ron found satisfaction in helping establish his church, Community of Faith in West Linn. Throughout his adult life, he fulfilled multiple roles in church leadership. Survivors include his loving wife, Vi, daughters Stephanie Love (Jim) , Christina Day (Evan), granddaughter Luci Love and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Legacy Hospice for their role in providing end-of-life care. Remembrances can be made to Legacy Hospice, Shepherd’s Door or charity of choice. A private family Celebration of Life was held on October 24, 2020.

Ruth Strauch

One of my fond memories of Uncle Ron is from my wedding reception. After my husband smashed cake all over my face, Uncle Ron came to my rescue with napkins and all to help me clean up. Of course he had a huge smile on his face and enjoyed the show completely, he probably tipped Kraig a Benji for it too!! Uncle Ron was always up for a good time and usually initiated it with the request of the "YMCA"! He was a people person to the core. Always taking interest in our sports and even his grand-nephew's football interest. Coaching him on the importance and need for good long snappers. What a true blessing to have known a man who loved so dearly his family, God, and work. And gave the BEST hugs!!

John Stoops

Ron was a wonderful person. Truly a man of good will with a great sense of humor. At church, he was a one-man welcome committee who searched out new faces and made sure they were greeted and seated. He was very involved in church ministries, especially supportive of Shepherd's Door. I miss him greatly.

I first met Ron when he & Vi (my sister) were dating. Soon he became a part of our large family with all the festivities & celebrations which he loved. The annual Thanksgiving gathering was always a highlighted event. We will miss his laughter! It was evident his family was most important to him and he dearly loved them Ron enjoyed all things related to real estate and was always up on the latest market trends. He lived life by the Golden Rule; always kind, thoughtful and generous. Ron will be thought of often and remembered always!
