Ronald "Chief" F. Ames
September 15th, 1932 - July 1st, 2014
Ronald F. Ames "Chief" Loving husband, father, grandpa, Papa, friend. Passed away July 1, 2014 at the age of 81. He now rests in the arms of his Heavenly Father. Predeceased by his parents Harvey & Margaret [Spadafore] Ames; brothers Harvey and Richard; honored brothers Frank and Ernie DeRosa. Ron is survived by Helen [DeRosa], his wife of 56 years; children Kathy (Mike) Kardash; sons Michael (Shelly), Mark and honored son David Viafore; grandchildren Matthew, Jessica, Jennifer, Hong, Laura, Nick, Shane and Robbie. Sisters Linda & Judy Ames; sisters-in-law Kaye & JoAnne Ames; honored DeRosa sisters and brothers Caroline Fritz, Jim & Lorraine, Vera, Bob & Deni, Joe and Shirley, Tony and JaeDene; Mary & Daryl Zadow; nieces, nephews and cousins. Graduate of Stadium High School. U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, served aboard the USS Chickasaw as a fireman. The family moved to Fircrest in 1970, where Ron joined the Police Department as a Reserve Officer. In 1973 he became a Patrolman, a Sergeant in 1978 and was appointed Police Chief in 1982, retiring in 1994. Ron was a fiercely dedicated Chief to the citizens he took an oath to protect and serve. He earned the respect of the city, his officers, and other Police agencies. He was a member of St Rita's Catholic Church, and the Sons of Italy, having held offices in both the Tacoma Lodge #1175 and the Grand Lodge of the Northwest. A charter member of the Lakewood Elks and various other organizations. A family Committal Service was held at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Rita's Catholic Church or the Vincent DeRosa Scholarship Fund at St Charles Borromeo School.
