Ronald Reniger Ashworth
February 20th, 1933 - July 28th, 2017
Ronald Reniger Ashworth 84, Passed away, Friday Jul 28, 2017. He was born in East Lansing, MI on Feb 20th, 1933 to Marjorie Reniger and John Francis Ashworth. He graduated from East Lansing High School, lettering in football, basketball and baseball under the coaching and mentorship of Coach Pat Peppler. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Gunner's Mate aboard the USS BALTIMORE (CA-68) during the Korean War and attended Queen Elizabeth's Coronation on 2 Jun 1953. He was a member of the All Navy Baseball Team. After the Navy, he attended Ferris State College and married Maureen Gerkin of Howell, MI. They moved to Tucson, AZ in 1960 and had three children, Stacy, Stephanie and Steven Ashworth. He worked for Shamrock Dairy, was a long haul truck driver and worked for the Pima County School System until his retirement when he met his long-time love, Patricia Higgins. Together they enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping in their travel trailer. She was at his side at the time of his death. Ron was a life member of the American Legion, Post 36 for over 50 years. Ron enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting in the Arizona outdoors. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers, Robert R Ashworth and Kerns R Ashworth. He is survived by his three children and his grandchildren, Tori Howarth and Jake and Jessica Ashworth as well as Patricia's grandchildren Taylor and Jake Courson. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Sierra Vista Veterans Cemetery.
