Ronald Howard Davis, passed peacefully into eternity with Christ on May 5, 2016 after a three year battle with A.L.S. (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Ron, aged 78, fought this terrible disease just as he lived his life – with courage, quiet strength, and a kind heart concerned for others. Ron was a loyal, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Ron graduated from Huntington Park High School in Huntington Park, California in 1955, and then joined the United States Navy. Honorably serving his country for four years, he served aboard the U.S.S. Jason, a Navy repair ship serving the Pacific Fleet in Okinawa and Sasabo, Japan, Ron, as a Damage Controlman Petty Officer 3rd Class, served in the carpenter shop during his time at sea. By trade, Ron was a master machinist and maintenance supervisor. Possessing tremendous skills, he enjoyed long segments of employment at Master Metal Works in Los Angeles, CA, Union Carbide in Bishop, CA, Pacific Power & Light (later known as TransAlta) in Rock Springs, WY and Centralia, WA, where he retired in December 2002. From early on, Ron was an outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He was an expert marksman, angler, photographer, and lifelong collector of coins, stamps, firearms, and tools of every kind. Ron was proud to be a Life and Endowment member of the National Rifle Association; a life member of the Case Knife Collector Club; a past Master of the Bishop Masonic Lodge, past President of the Bishop 4-Wheel Drive Club, past President of the Bishop Bell’s & Beau’s Bottle Club, and a former member of the Bishop Foursquare Community Church. Ron was a member of the Evergreen Gun Club, the Tacoma-Lakewood Coin Club and the Olympia Philatelic Society. Ron was also active serving his neighbors and the homeowners association at the Delphi Country Club. Ron is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of nearly 59 years, Rhea “Pat” (Garrison) Davis, his two daughters, Karen Kruse and her husband Jeffrey Kruse of Sherwood, OR, and Rhea Adkins and her husband Clark Adkins of Marietta GA. Ron is also survived by his six grand children and two great-grandchildren: Jamie (Kruse) Hall and her husband Bobby Hall of Blythe, CA, David Kruse, his wife Shannon and their children Lydia Kruse and Cyrus Kruse of Twin Falls, ID, Jennifer (Kruse) Huff and her husband Steve Huff of Caldwell, ID, Kimberly Kruse of Van Nuys, CA, Emily Ward and her husband John Ward of Greenville, SC and Ellen Adkins of Marietta, GA. Additionally, Ron is survived by his beloved sisters, Janice Lonsdale and her husband Stan Lonsdale, of New Zealand and Charlene Sisemore and her husband Paul Sizemore of Apple Valley, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Davis and Leona Dixon Davis of San Clemente, CA. Ronald Howard Davis will be interned with military honor at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA on Thursday, May 12, 2016. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Lakeview Chapel, 4606 108th St. SW, Lakewood WA. Contact Edward’s Memorial Center for more information. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Paralyzed Veteran’s of American, 100 South West Main Street Floor 2 Portland, OR 97204.
