Ronald C. Janoff, 85 years old, died June 4, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Kola; his daughter, Patrice (Ron) Brown, and their children, Ben (Kristina) Brown, Allison (Yossi) Avisror and Dana Brown; his son, Dr. Edward (Dr. Nancy Krywonis) Janoff and their sons, Jordan and André, his ex wife,Barbara Kaplan, and four great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Born in New York City, Ron served in the Merchant Marine in World War II and the US Coast Guard. He graduated from New York University (BA ’48). Ron was a real estate and mortgage broker and developer in New York and in Tucson since 1963. He focused on commercial properties and developing new housing projects, including early University apartment complexes and land acquisitions with actor Michael Landon. Ron was active in the early development of the local motion picture business at Old Tucson, with the Tucson Film Commission and multiplex movie theaters. More recently, he worked with his wife, Kola, in her firm, Kola’s LLC. His many contributions to civic and charitable organizations include the Tucson Human Relations Commission, as a founder and past president of the Tucson Classics and the founder with Kola of the Michael Landon Children’s Cancer Fund. He was a long time member of the Rotary Club of Tucson and Mensa. Ron was a kind and generous man who will be remembered for his magnetic personality, quick and gentle humor, love of life and ability to engage many warm and sustained friendships in his community. He lived by his credo, “E.I.M.” (“Everything In Moderation . . .”). He requested that any donations be made to the Michael Landon Children’s Cancer Fund at the University of Arizona Cancer Research Center or to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson.
