Rosalinde Morasch
1937 – 2024
Rosalinde was born in Augsburg Germany to Edward Johann Otto and Charlotte Brambeer Knoepfler on Valentines Day and passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2024.
As a child Linde witnessed the carnage of WW11 when a 500 lb. dud bomb came through the roof landing next to her in her grandmother’s basement. She was strafed by fighters while on a train. She remembers when an African American Tank Company came through the country and handed out chocolate to the kids. Linde did not know if her father was alive. He had escaped Russia only to be captured by the French Army near Brenner Pass, Italy. He was released a short time later after being run through the French gauntlet many times.
Growing up in Augsburg after the war Linde went to Catholic and Lutheran schools as they were being rebuilt, her penmanship was impeccable. After school and on weekends she took her little wagon to collect bricks from bombed out buildings to help her father build his home. As a teenager in Germany, she served a Butcher and Deli Apprenticeship. Later she worked as a sales representative, lingerie model and comparison shopper for a department store.
Linde met the love of her life Larry in 1958 while he was serving with the US Army. Linde came to America in July of 1959 and they were married on August 30 1959. With a beautiful service at Trinity Lutheran in Endicott Washington, a small German farming community. Larry said his vows in English and Linde said her vows in German.
As her children grew older Linde was a care giver for an elderly lady. Her employer worked for Harvey’s Skin-Diving Company and recommended her to Harvey. She worked her way up to management and helped entertain European customers on his Yacht while selling his skin-diving and survival suits. Linde was proud of the wetsuits she custom tailored for her children, Oceanographer Jacques Cousteau and leg gaiters for Jim Whittaker. Linde was a numbers person. She could do math in her head and could remember the birth dates and more of relatives and friends she worked with.
When husband Larry retired from Boeing in June 1995, they built their forever home in Chehalis WA on nine Acres of beautiful tall fir trees. In 2015 they moved to Hawks Prairie on a Golf Course in Lacey WA where the maintenance was a little easier. Linde and Larry loved their trips to Europe, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France. Renting cars driving the back roads and staying in small accommodations at evening time while visiting relatives and site seeing.
Linde was an incredible cook, learning many Volga German recipes from her mother in-law Clara Morasch and German dishes from her mother’s sister Aunt Dora Victorwitch. Her Signature Orange Rolls from Larry’s grandmother Mae Geier was a family favorite. She was a self-taught seamstress and highly skilled at knitting. She made porcelain dolls and loved her house plants. Linde enjoyed trailer camping and chasing black bears away.
Linde and Larry would have been married for 65 years on August 30. She was a wonderful wife and mother. Linde loved her family dearly and will be missed as much. She loved being called Oma.
Survivors include her husband Larry, son Gary, granddaughter Amy. Daughter Lori, Granddaughter Erin McCaul and Reid, great grandsons Connor and Asher. Grandson James and Amanda Andersen, great grandsons Jesse and Miles. Son Larry R. and partner Jody Cuthbertson, Granddaughters Julia and Jennifer.
