Rose M. Baca

Rose Baca was born on January 25, 1934 to Ramon & Adelina Mares. She was called home on September 10, 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband Ned Baca; brothers Richard Mares, Romeo Mares; sisters Edwina Mora, Peggy Mares. She is survived by her son Stephen M. Baca and his wife Delilah Montaño-Baca; grandchildren Amber R. Baca and Stephen J. Baca; great grandson Gabriel L. Baca; sister Alicia Garcia and brother Ray Mares. Rose and Ned ran a small-town mom and pop grocery store in Peña Blanca, NM while raising a son, a black cat (midnight) and three German Shepherds (Chula, Champion, and Lulu) whom she loved to pieces. The townspeople as well as the surrounding communities all have nothing but great memories with even better stories about their experiences in "Baca's Store". She was a kind, sweet, generous woman. She loved cooking, gardening, listening to rancheras, collecting pottery, jewelry, and watching "her" novellas. But above all, her happiness came from taking care of her grandkids, going to multiple casinos, and participating in every local bingo. She also loved talking to her sisters, brothers and best friends on the phone and/or at the community center. She was an excellent cook and all measurements/recipes were by memory. Every meal was made with love and a huge smile on her face. We all say it made the food taste better. She was a devout Catholic who prayed for everyone, daily. She lived a long, simple, healthy life. She loved and was loved deeply. She will be greatly missed. Due to restrictions, services will be held in Peña Blanca, NM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for immediate family only.
