Rose "Rosey" Murray
May 9th, 1933 - September 17th, 2024
“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” ― A.A. Milne
Rose M. Murray, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away at home on September 17th, 2024 at the age of 91 surrounded by her 3 children.
Born to the late Thomas and Ethel (nee Fornstner) Osborn on May 9th, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA. Rose, lovingly known as Rosey, was the youngest of her five siblings, Frances Wright, Louis Osborn, Sally Bechtel, Thomas Osborn, and Ethel Coates. When Rose was an infant, her father suddenly passed away, leaving her Mother to take care of six young children. Rose went to work at a young age, and one of her first jobs was in a photo/film factory, where she met her future husband, Eugene Murray. Gene actively courted young Rose as they worked together, creating a strong friendship initially, which eventually turned to love. Rose and Gene were married at the Holy Name Parish in 1959, and spent a loving 48 years together until his death in 2007. Gene & Rose spent their time going to socials with family & friends, and spending time with their growing family. Gene and Rose shared their love further by welcoming their beloved children into the world, Rosemarie (Guy) Tevis, the late Eugene Murray (1962), Eugene (Kimberly) Murray, and John Murray, whom Rose always referred to her children as her 3 little Angels! As a young family, they enjoyed vacation trips to Wildwood, fishing trips in Strathmore, visits to amusement parks and trips to Niagara Falls. When they moved from the city to South Jersey in 1974, they hosted many "legendary" barbecues and family reunions during the summer with their extended families.
Rose and Gene raised their children with love, compassion, and the goal of creating independent adults. As parents, they supported their children, encouraged them to be respectful of others, and to simply have fun and enjoy life.
Rosey's children gave her the greatest gift of all, becoming the grandmom to Guy Michael, Ashley Paige Murphy (nee Murray) and her husband John, Lauren Brooke, and Kristen Leigh, and more recently the beloved great-grandmom to Hudson Rhett Murray. Rose loved spending time with all her grandchildren.
Rose was a working Mom most of her adult life, too. She worked for several years at Levin's Fabrics in Woodbury where she was well known as "Rosey the Draper!" She also enjoyed working at the local high school cafeteria for many years where she developed life-long friendships along the way at all of her jobs. When Rose was not spending time with her family, she enjoyed watching classic movies and musicals on TCM, especially John Wayne movies. She also loved reading the local newspaper, playing the slot machines in AC, crocheting, and watching the birds in her backyard. Rose was a member of the Riverwinds Senior Center in West Deptford, and loved to go on their bus trips with her sister, Ethel and together with friends they traveled to many places.
Given Rose's optimistic outlook on life and natural kindness, she made friends easily everywhere she went, and she will deeply missed by all who knew her. She had a heart of gold, and a unique sense of humor, mixed in with a little sarcasm, but above all, she will be remembered for her unwavering and constant love for her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rosey's viewing on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024 from 10am - 12pm in McGuinness Funeral Home, located at 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ, followed by a funeral service where Rosey will be reunited with her beloved husband, Gene in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ.

Our beautiful funeral home in Woodbury was originally built in the late 1700s, and has since been rebuilt to honor its original charm and comfortable, warm feel.
